The St James’ Institute presents: Same Sex Relationships and Church Conflict
Thursday 27 May | 10:00am-11:30am | Webinar | $20
Many congregations struggle with and against their denominations’ and dioceses’ stances on sexuality. Same sex blessings are currently an area of legal and theological disagreement within the Anglican Church of Australia. Such conflicts go deeper than constitutions and canons—they go to persons’ very identity.
In this live webinar, feminist practical theologian Joyce Ann Mercer will share insights from her on-the-ground research with Anglican, Lutheran, and Presbyterian congregations. Going beyond the traditional/progressive binary, Mercer’s research discusses the hard realities of staying together and the positive ways faith communities have learned to live with difference. This presentation will include time for questions.
Dr Joyce Ann Mercer is Professor of Pastoral Care and Practical Theology at Yale Divinity School. She has published widely on religious conflict.
