About Us

Part of St James’ mission is to nourish the faith of our church members, to support those seeking God or questioning their faith, to facilitate debate, and to educate those who wish to be better informed about Christianity. This mission underpins much of the work of the St James’ Institute, involving topical seminars and discussion groups. We also seek to connect with organisations and businesses here in the city of Sydney by putting together an annual programme of events on a wide variety of topics to engage with questions of faith, belief, religion and spirituality in the public square.

Christopher Waterhouse is Director of the St James’ Institute. Christopher is also a Lay Minister in the parish of St James’ and studies theology as a Masters student at Trinity College, Melbourne. He is a graduate of the University of Tasmania (History) and the former General Manager of the St James’ Theatre, London. Christopher commenced his theology studies at Ripon College Cuddesdon while Canons’ Verger and Sacristan of Christ Church Oxford (2013-2017). Christopher’s interests are broad and varied, but he has a particular interest in theology and the arts.

The St James’ Institute is supported by a Board of Management who oversee administration and financial management of the Institute. The St James’ Institute Advisory Committee provide programming and marketing support to the Director and provide an invaluable link to other parishes in the Diocese of Sydney and beyond.
