Cantata Series

Four times a year, The Choir of St James’ and BachBand@StJames’ perform Bach Cantatas in in a liturgical setting, modelled on the Lutheran Service of Vespers.
Experience these well-loved works in the environment for which they were written.
Entry is free and a collection is taken during the service.

Widerstehe doch der Sünde (BWV 54)

This solo alto cantata is one of Bach’s lesser known cantatas and was written for Lent at the beginning of his tenure in Weimar.
