COVID-19 and impact on St James’ Concerts

Due to the current COVID-19 restrictions, all Choir concerts have been suspended. Individual ticket-holders to cancelled concerts have been contacted about options. If you have a ticket but haven’t been contacted, or if you would like to be included on the music mailing list, please email brooke.shelley(at)sjks.org.au.

However, we are thrilled that our Lunchtime Concerts have resumed.  Please view our What’s On page for upcoming concerts. Patrons can buy a ticket to attend in person and/or watch online.

Concert Series

As the vision of those that conceived our church over 200 year ago intersects with the present, we not only look back at the significance of St James’ in our ever-changing and expanding city, but form a vision for the future of our church. St James’ is not only a place of worship but a hugely important centre for the arts. Music has always been central to life at St James’, and our wide-ranging music ministry has been integral and vital to the cultural life of Sydney and far beyond.

Visions and visionaries are woven through our 2020 concert series, from early music showcasing the timeless music of the Abbess Hildegard von Bingen, to composers of the present day whose vision and legacy will be with us for generations to come. We have commissioned eminent British composer Gabriel Jackson to compose a new orchestral mass setting to mark the bicentenary of St James’, and we continue to champion our own composers here at St James’, with a fine legacy already in place.

Our vision for music at St James’ is rich and diverse, always passionate, sublime and soul stirring and to the highest standard—music that transcends time and that propels us to a greater future. I look forward to sharing this year’s concert series with you as we prepare for the next 200 years of music and artistic vision at St James’.
