The St James’ Institute presents: Afterlives of Jesus
Greg Jenks has been thinking out loud about Jesus for decades, but his latest book project is an edited collection of essays by scholars and religion practitioners from around the world and across faith boundaries. The focus is not on the historical Jesus (‘back then’) but on the afterlives of Jesus (all around us now).
While Christianity is in decline, interest in Jesus shows no sign of abating. Across time and around the world even today, there is a rich and diverse repertoire of theological writings, devotional works, liturgies, art of various kinds, historical research, and charitable projects which constitute the ‘afterlives’ of Jesus. This project traces the continuing impact of Jesus across time, distance, and culture, including within different religious traditions.
The Rev’d Dr Gregory C. Jenks recently retired as Dean of Grafton and was previously the Dean of St George’s College in Jerusalem. He is now pursuing his research interests as Director of the Centre for Coins, Culture and Religious History at St John’s Cathedral, Brisbane.
